Product: Posh 6.5 OS Mini Open Structure Speaker

Our Posh speaker system has helped transform our showroom from "sound dead" to a facility alive with music both from our multi-media system and our satellite radio provider. With the addition of the Posh speakers we feel that our retail space is no longer just a place to view our available vehicles, but it is now a truly luxurious and welcoming area within which clients feel at ease and relaxed while browsing. The sound dispersion and quality is excellent and the integration with our multi-media system has allowed us to utilize the system to play promotional DVDs while giving us the option of listening to the DVD’s music or playing satellite radio. In addition to the sound benefits, the system has made a positive visual impact in our showroom whereas other speaker systems we considered detracted from our look and feel. All-in-all this was one of the best upgrades to our facility to date.

The Oceanaire Seafood Room, Seattle, WA

Installed by: Sean Cumpton of SMC Contracting; Designed by Impulse Group

Posh Products: 60 5.25 Retro Speakers

The Oceanaire Seafood Room in Seattle, WA. is the third in a planned rollout of upscale seafood establishments with their roots in Minnesota. Parasole Restaurant Holdings is the parent company of Oceanaire and also the founding firm for Buca di Beppo restaurants. Parasole's Phil Roberts called Jiggs Lee at Impulse Group LLC in Minneapolis to have them design and install a system that would allow the Oceanaire's 30's and 40's uptempo music to create a vibrant counterpoint to the interior ambience. Designed by Ellerbe Becket to exude the look of a 1940's cruise ship, The Oceanaire Seafood Room is lush with an interior filled with rich woods, wine-colored leatherette seating, white tablecloths, and ceramic tile bathrooms. Impulse Group utilized 60 POSH 5.25 Retro speakers throughout the facility after doing a side-by-side comparison against a well-known manufacturer's offering and determining that it actually sounded better for less. A single QSC CX-302V amplifier split into nine 70V lines controlled through autoformers powers the system. AEI Music (DMX) in Seattle provides the music source. Sean Cumpton of SMC Contracting, Seattle, was given the nod to perform the installation. Sean stated that the 5.25 Retro's installed in a snap and balanced well with the look of the room.

The Grove,

Los Angeles, CA

Installed by: DMX MUSIC; Designed by: DMX MUSIC/ Caruso Affiliated Holdings

Posh Products: 74 P-2 surface mount speakers; 39 528-810 flush mounted ceiling speakers

DMX MUSIC outfitted Los Angeles' newest $160 million outdoor retail and entertainment center, The Grove (adjacent to the historic Farmers Market), with customized sound systems and tailored music selections. The Grove is a 575,000 square-foot outdoor retail and entertainment center, featuring 50 upscale shops, restaurants, movie theatres and offices, with a substantial parking structure (approximately 3,500 spaces). Musical selections are delivered to The Grove's shopping area and parking structure via DMX MUSIC's DBS system. There are 20 zones mapped out to feature various sounds as chosen by the customer. DMX MUSIC installed approximately $176,000 in equipment. The most unique element of the project was installing an elaborate music system in the parking garage. The intention of installing such a system was to immediately draw the customer into the mood of the center and to make the customer feel more secure, particularly when walking through the structure in the evenings. DMX MUSIC installed 74 Posh P-2 surface mount speakers throughout the parking area and 39 Posh 528810 flush mounted ceiling speakers in the waiting area, elevator landings and rest rooms. There are 8 separate zones of DMX MUSIC to provide each floor with a different selection of music. This is the third center that DMX MUSIC has installed for Caruso Affiliated Holdings; Westlake Promenade 1996, The Commons of Calabasas 1998, The Grove 2002.

Wood Ranch BBQ & Grille, The Grove Farmer's Market, CA

Installed by: DMX Music; Designed by: Michael Kalmanson, Senior Systems Engineer, Premiere Accounts - DMX Music

Posh Products: 37 P2 surface mount speakers; 27 5.25 Retro Speakers

Wood Ranch Barbeque & Grille, located in the middle of the newest and most upscale Outdoor Shopping Center in California, The Grove at the Farmer's Market, is one of the finest Barbeque Fine Dining Restaurants in California. By 5:00 PM on the weekends, and by 6:00 every other day there is well over an hour and a half wait. The success of this restaurant is largely due to the incredible attention to detail, by owner's Eric and Opher. Nothing escapes their watchful eyes. When Eric approached Michael Kalmanson, Senior Systems Engineer, Premiere Accounts of DMX Music, Inc. he gave the following requirements.

  • Absolutely top quality, full range sound throughout the entire dining and bar areas, with literally "club quality" in the Bar.

  • Eric's greatest complaint about sound in his other restaurants, as well as restaurants in general was that some diners were exposed to the music being too high, while other diners could not hear the music at all. He demanded that every diner enjoy the incredible DMX music equally.

  • The system needed to come in right on budget, which was substantial, but not extravagant.

Accomplishing Eric's need for guaranteed uniformity of coverage was not an easy task. Within each master zone for example the main dining or the bar there are multiple ceiling types and heights, and diners (or drinkers) in all of the areas. In the dining area there are raised seating areas with a gypboard ceiling of 8'6", and open beamed areas of 11'. Each ceiling height area was divided into separate volume zones, as using different taps would not accomplish the task. At such close distances Inverse Square becomes the most critical factor. Additionally, within each volume zone, minimum overlap coverage was utilized to insure uniformity of seat to seat coverage. Once the volume zones within a given general zones were balanced, using pink noise, the volume controls were covered with security panels, and Remote Master Source Selector Volume Controls are used exclusively by the staff. Not many 6500 square ft restaurant utilize 37 Posh P2-T Speakers and 27 Posh Retro 525 Speakers. Many systems engineers as well as clients would consider it massive overkill. The results, however were stunning. When measured, using a Gold Line Pink Noise Generator and a DSP30 RTA, the level within each zone, measured any where in the zone was +/- 1 dB at any seat in the house. Eric declared the coverage throughout the restaurant to be absolutely perfect. Perhaps the greatest proof of his happiness with the Posh product, correctly utilized, is that four days after opening the restaurant, he, without any hesitation or negotiating over price, signed a contract for a similar system for his restaurant under construction in Rancho Santa Margarita. Kudo's to Posh for providing a product that allows such sophistication in design and sound quality at an affordable price.
